"DnB ALBUM OF THE MONTH" - WAX MAGAZINE, UK
August 99
"A dozen cuts of innovative "sci-fi" DRUM'N'BASS LISTENING
Based in London, yet seeming to "come out of nowhere", these guys are sure to blow up in the coming months. Surreal soundscapes mesh with deep atmospheric effects and rolled out beats. then all of a sudden a jazzed out downtempo interlude sprouts up like new grass in the spring. Haunting and melodic, most of these tracks will be loved by fans of such labels as Hospital, Good Lookin', and Freeform. "

"To say this one is Left Field is an understatement, from Chalk Hill's
sweeping ambient Drum and Bass, to the chill out breaks of The Lord's
Garden' La Bella this compilation goes right through from hip-hop
instrumentals to bizarre grinding drum and bass "
- IRISHDRUMANDBASS.COM
"music that will suit you whatever mood you're in. 12 songs on here, each one takes you on a journey, some smooth, easy and subtle while others give a shaken, rough ride that leaves you gasping for breath. A well thought out collection of music not just a mass of "Things we had lying around". There are some surprises just when you thought it couldn't go any where else. I would point to stand out tracks on this compilation but everytime I listen the stand out tunes are different...ooh I'm exhausted. A great compilation, a great introduction to Fi Sci Records."

Album Overview:
- Five Knolls - Chalk Hill
A floating evocation of a special landscape; with Fitz at the controls and featuring Angel on violin and Ali on Gtr, Fi Sci's sublime soundcrafters Chalk Hill present their beautiful take on D'n'B. As timeless as the places and spaces that inspire them.
- Anchored in the Bay of Sots - Hotel Full of Cops
The Lockstep production team at their Millennial Bugging Big Beat
Beatnikking Best.
"twisted nursery rhyme melodies" Straight No Chaser
- Cerche' - Nostramus featuring Merlyn, C.Nische & Fez
A beautiful, uplifting Celtic 6/8 D'n'B groove with C.Nische's exquisite voice soaring over Merlyn's Bodhran, Fez' gtr & Spon's studio wizardry. Like a crystal stream.
"Twenty first century pagan drum & bass". DJ Mag
"Nostramus deserve credit for their accessibility and open-mindedness,
intriguing and entertaining". Soundbite magazine
- New Era - New Era
Groovin' on a B-line from Heaven, 'New Era' was featured in the British
gangster movie 'Face' starring Robert Carlyle (Full Monty etc) & Damon
Albarn (Blur). Soundtrack album on Island Records. This track just becomes one big instant smiler when the Bassline drops.
- Iron Eye - Kumo
A munching Bassfeast from the talent that is Kumo.
"dance floor standout is Kumo's "Iron Eye" with some deep rolled drums and buoyant bass" - JuNgLe VoOdOo USA
"KUMO's music reflects both his love of beats and his fascination, as an engineer, for the sound-shaping techniques you'd associate more with
techno." Sleaze Nation, London
"If you long for some more depth and atmosphere in your jungle, KUMO could be just the ticket". DJ Mag, London
- When I Commit - Brett Schieber
Taking a detour from his work with U.S. Folk/TripHop outfit Arcanum, Brett weaves a tale from the darker side of the Psyche.
- The Blessing - Mikey B featuring Dayo
First release for former Adam F. rhythm man Mikey B. An uplifting and
spiritual groove featuring Dayo on vox & Joni Musgrave on keys.
- Taboo (mboss/dj logikz mix) - listen.to/the_sound
Multimedia artist mboss teams up with dj logikz to turn out a kickin' slice of jazzin' D'n'B. "delicious drum'n'bass rumblings" Straight No Chaser
- The Welcome - The Hungry 5 Thousand
After great gigs at 333 in Hoxton & Mass in Brixton (both performances with Wayne & Ian from Ute as guest noisemakers),D-Zine creates a Trip Hopping soundscape for an imaginary movie.
D-Zine can also be heard on: Snowboy - M.F.O.S. (Acid Jazz),
A1 People - Fresh Juice (Hydrogen Dukebox), D-Note - Babel (Dorado),
7Central - Do You Count (Fi Sci), Ute - Free To Be, Free to Breathe (33
Jazz), & Under the External (Mercury/Polygram), Slowly - Ming (Chill
Out/Dorado), Audio Sports - Strange Fruits (All Access, Japan)
- Outlines - Ute
Ute jazzin' put through 7 Central's sonic D'n'B twists."For those of you looking for music with character, for something else, this is where you'll find it" DJ magazine, London.
"Ute’s own ‘Outlines’ works barely audible beats into a lighter than air framework " - Kingsley Marshall, Wax Magazine U.K.
- It's Bass Jim, but not as we know it - Luminous
Luminous' debut release for Fi Sci is an intensely powerful and emotional piece of music. Sort of Sun Ra/John Coltrane meets Syd Barrett/John Zorn.
"Luminous rebuilds his sampler to create a bizarre hybrid of uncomfortable percussion and John Carpenter like atmospheres." - Kingsley Marshall, Wax Magazine U.K.
- La Bella - The Lord's Garden
How mello can you go. This is the last track on 'eclipse'; just fall into the track and shhhhh. The Lord's Garden's debut album 'Journeys' is available on Sony (Japan).
